Just after surgery you will usually be required to stay on liquids only. This is because there will be a lot of swelling around the stomach so any solid food could get stuck or even rupture your staples. Usually you will then transition onto a puree or a soft sloppy diet – nothing too tough or no big lumps again. The length of time you stay on each of these phases of the diet for often varies greatly between Bariatric Providers and Surgeons – follow your own provider’s advice and don’t be tempted to move onto a normal diet too quickly – you don’t want to risk any problems and potentially another surgery
