A little gentle exercise

If you want to start exercising then you really can’t beat counting your steps and aiming for the 10,000 a day.

However, if you fancy a class but are a bit worried about your fitness levels and if you can keep up or not then why not try something gentle like Pilates. Read on to discover more about the hidden benefits of gentle exercise.

Pilates has been around for decades and can help with back pain, musculoskeletal problems and general aches and pains. Some of the key features that Pilates can help with are good posture, balance, strength. It can help improve general fitness and well being.

Usually exercises are done on a mat and sometimes additional apparatus is needed to provide resistance or additional support. It was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s who wanted to combine physical and mental well being useful methods from boxing, Greek – Roman wrestling and gymnastics. It is however considered gentler than these and is usually suitable for any ages and activity levels. Since it is low impact it is not usual to suffer any injuries from this form of exercise – movements are usually slow and steady with Pilates > Sometimes it might look like you aren’t moving much but you are actually working deep into the muscles.

Why not give it a try if you want to try something gentle but new. Check around your local area for classes and just check the teacher is suitable qualified. If there aren’t any classes you could always try looking for a yoga class instead.
