Summer Fun for the kids

Well the summer holidays are upon us already – lets hope for good weather so we can all get outdoors and enjoy it

If you have children off for the school holidays why not get them involved in making healthy snacks or helping you cook healthy meals – kids love getting stuck in and it keeps them occupied. Try the following:

  • fresh fruit kebabs
  • fruit smoothie
  • Homemade salsa dip with carrot, cucumber and pepper sticks
  • Homemade ice lollies – a little low-fat yoghurt on these can be lovely
  • Get them making their own sandwiches – must have a veggie in them
  • Try homemade pizzas – use low fat cheese and lots of veg toppings
  • Make a sugar free jelly with them and add fruit as a topping
  • Make chocolate covered strawberries – a little chocolate won’t hurt

There are so many things the kids can help with – even if it’s just getting them to help you cook your normal dinners – tech them about healthy eating along the way. You never know, you might have a budding chef on your hands!
