Increasing your Metabolism

Your metabolism is basically how many calories your body burns up every day. The faster your metabolism the easier it is to lose weight!
In general women tend to have slower metabolisms than men. When trying to lose weight you want to maximise your metabolism to help with this.

How to increase your metabolism:

  • Eat Regular Meals – never ever miss out meals as this can lower your metabolism. Your body is tricked into thinking it is starving so it slows down your metabolism to conserve energy. It is very easy to try and skip meals if you’re not that hungry thinking it will help you to lose weight but you won’t be doing yourself any favours in the longer term!
  • Hit the Weights - a weight training session will work wonders for your metabolism. Muscle uses up more calories than fat so by toning up your muscles you will be using up more calories)
  • Eat Small and Often – this fits really well following your surgery

  • Get up earlier – the more time spent up and about the more calories your body will use up.

  • Be more active – any activity will help raise your metabolism. It could be an aerobics class or simply using the stairs more often than the lifts.

  • Eat Breakfast – eating early in the morning will help kick start your metabolism first thing. The word breakfast actually means to break the fast of the night before

Take it one step at a time and every little pounds soon adds up to a stone!!
